Quality of life and livability impacts not only the attitude and productivity of the existing work force, but also the ability of employers to recruit and retain key personnel. The community of Cozad possesses a wide diversity of cultural, entertainment and recreational options. Low cost of living, short and easy commuting and a high degree of public safety are just a few of our citizen’s favorite community attributes.
Opportunities for outdoor recreation are plentiful in Cozad. Take time to enjoy the beauty of our parks, play a round of golf, play tennis or take a walk on the Muny Park Trail. With access to boating, waterskiing, camping, canoeing, fishing and swimming in local lakes and rivers, you can enjoy your time outside. Corn fields are abundant in Cozad; so every fall, area farmers take advantage of their crops and open their fields to the public after plowing “mazes” through the tall stocks.Pumpkin patches also provide a fun outing in the fall.
The Community Wellness Center is a 40,000 square foot facility with cardio workout equipment, free weights, indoor basketball and volleyball courts and an indoor track. This coupled with a multitude of classes for any age and fitness level allows its members to live a healthy lifestyle. Even in the winter, you can work on your game at the Community Sports Complex. With an indoor tennis court, racquetball court and batting cages you can keep your skills sharp. In 2020 a new 54-room hotel and a triplex movie theater will be opening.
Cozad’s location on the 100th Meridian was not by accident. John Cozad, the community founder, thought this location with its uniqueness would capture the imagination of settlers. With a new identity, Robert Henri, the son of Cozad went on to become a famed American artist. His boyhood home remains along with the secrets and stories of his family in the Hendee Hotel and Robert Henri Museum. The 100th Meridian Museum is filled with diversity, history and creativity, displaying collections from the community past to present. If you are looking for something unique, you can find it in Cozad. From antiques and boutiques to furniture and fine dining, Cozad has something for everyone and every taste. Whether you’re craving authentic Italian cuisine, Mexican, Nebraska beef or an old fashioned treat from the local cafe, Cozad has it all. Join us downtown during the summer for outdoor concerts, food trucks, and community fellowship.
